“The Linguini Incident,” a comedy starring David Bowie and Rosanna Arquette, hits Blu-ray and DVD on July 23, 2024 via the MVD Marquee Collection. Emmy winning filmmaker Richard Shepard (“The Matador,” “Dom Hemingway”) made his feature debut with the feature. Shepard and producer Sarah Jackson re-claimed the rights to “The Linguini Incident” and had the movie scanned and restored in 4K. A never-before-seen director’s cut highlights this anticipated release.
The romantic caper centers on Lucy (Rosanna Arquette) a struggling waitress and Monte (David Bowie), an in-debt bartender who are in need of money. They team up with Lucy’s best friend (“Stranger Than Paradise’s” Eszter Balint) to rob their restaurant. The ensemble also includes Buck Henry, Andre Gregory, James Avery, Viveca Lindfors and Maura Tierney.
The Blu-ray comes with commentaries, a documentary on the making of the movie, a photo gallery, new and archival trailers, artwork, a booklet and a limited edition slipcover (first pressing only).
I was a UCLA Daily Bruin movie critic when this movie was released in 1992, and I remember watching the movie at a screening. I vaguely recall being disappointed by the movie. Since then I have been a fan of director Richard Shepard’s movies “Dom Hemingway” and “The Matador.” Maybe the director’s cut will change my thirty plus year opinion.
