Death Wish, Dirty Harry, and John Wick are just a few successful revenge thriller films that have spawned successful franchises. With Citizen Vigilante, Uwe Boll wanted to add a different spin to the genre. “I wanted to do a movie that (was) a little more non-fictional,” said Boll, whose past credits include First Shift and Postal. “I was very made about all the knife stabbings and gang rapes in Europe from migrants. So that’s a fact and that is a statistic that went up in England, in France, (and) in Germany. And a lot of times, there is no prosecution.”

Armie Hammer playes an American businessman named Sanders who wages a campaign against criminals which in turn leads to increased attention from law enforcement. “I wanted to make a very mad movie,” said Boll. “An accusing movie of (where) we are losing our culture (and) the state of law is getting completely moved aside. And all under the saying that we have to be open (and) let everybody into the country and totally forgetting that you need to vet the people coming in. You cannot just assume everybody is great who comes into the country.”
