This week in CinemAddicts land I highly disagreed with co-hosts Eric Holmes and Bruce Purkey over She Rides Shotgun. I absolutely love this action-thriller, mainly due to the locked in performances from Ana Sophia Heger and Taron Egerton. Holmes described the storytelling logic as “stupid” and Purkey echoed a similar sentiment. Check out our podcast review in the post!

Taron Egerton is Nate, an ex-con who is targeted for death by his adversaries. With these criminals bent on killing his family as well, Nate aims to protect his 11-year-old daughter Polly (Ana Sophia Heger) from imminent danger.

At first, Polly does not know if she should trust her father, but during their continued flight from gang members she understands he might be her only survival option.

Tautly directed by Nick Rowland, She Rides Shotgun succeeds as a solidly executed action thriller and a resonant family drama. Rob Yang also does solid work as John Park, a detective determined to figure out the levels of curruption behind Nate’s former crew. John Carroll Lynch, a talented character actor who also directed the underrated drama Lucky, stars as a mysterious figure who might be pulling all the strings.

My highly positive review was drowned out by the negative takes by Eric Holmes and Bruce Purkey. Listen to our review on this week’s CinemAddicts or check out Eric and I talk it out on YouTube!
