Mistress America, another inspired collaboration between director Noah Baumbach and actress Greta Gerwig, centers on a college freshman (Lola Kirke) who bonds with her soon to be stepsister (Gerwig) in New York City.
Along with Mistress America and her work on Amazon’s Mozart in the Jungle, Kirke is also a co-star in Mena, the latest collaboration between Edge of Tomorrow actor Tom Cruise and director Doug Liman. The feature is the true story of Barry Seal, a pilot who is hired by the CIA to run, according to Deadline, “one of the biggest covert operations in U.S. history.”
During the interviews for Mistress America, Kirke talked about working with Liman and Cruise. More importantly, she also recounts a pretty cool and “starstruck” encounter she had in Philadelphia with actress Ellen Burstyn (Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, Requiem for a Dream). Mena, which has a tentative release date of January 6, 2017, also stars Domhnall Gleeson, Sarah Right, Jesse Plemons (Friday Night Lights), Caleb Landry Jones, and Jayma Mayes.
Mistress America opens in select theaters August 14.
