HBO Crime Series ‘The Night Of’ Hits Blu-Ray & DVD In October

The acclaimed HBO crime series The Night Of is headed to Blu-ray and DVD on October 18. The eight episode project, created by Oscar winning writer Steven Zaillian and Oscar nominated scribe and novelist Richard Price (The Color of Money, Clockers), is headlined by Riz Ahmed and John Turturro (he worked with Price on Clockers).

The Night Of’s story centers on Nasir “Naz” Khan (Ahmed), a Pakistani-American college student who is arrested for murder. Turturro is John Stone, a lawyer who represents Khan.

James Gandolfini was actually set to star and produce the series, which was based on the UK program Criminal Justice, but he died of a heart attack in June 2013. Robert De Niro was initially slated to replace Gandolfini but left due to scheduling conflicts, and Turturro stepped in. Gandolfini starred in Romance & Cigarettes, a 2005 musical that was directed by Turturro.
