Rebecca: Lily James as Mrs. de Winter, Cr. KERRY BROWN/NETFLIX
It takes guts to remake Rebecca, and one wonders if director Ben Wheatley and company would be overshadowed by the presence of Alfred Hitchcock, Daphne Du Maurier, Laurence Olivier, Joan Fontaine (and let’s not forget Judith Anderson!). Eighty years is a long time between versions, and the great news is this Rebecca is worth your time.

Penned, directed and edited by David Raboy, The Giant is headlined by Odessa Young, an actress who has gained steady momentum thanks to Assassination Nation and Shirley (she’ll next be seen in The Stand). The Giant’s trailer has me hooked, as this brooding, atmospheric. thriller might be the real deal.

Dishing out swear words is not my forte, but thankfully Shithouse is, for lack of a better word, the f**king s**t. It’s an eye-opening and audacious debut from writer/director Cooper Raiff that is filled with realized performances. Whether or not you love the moniker, peel an extra layer and you are in for one of a kind storytelling.

Possessor Uncut - Andrea Riseborough. (NEON)
Possessor Uncut, directed by Brandon Cronenberg, is a film that will assuredly frustrate some and repel others. But, for those who cut their film teeth on David Cronenberg’s early works, such as Scanners, Rabid, and Videodrome, Possessor Uncut might be exactly what they are looking for. Before continuing, it must be noted that Brandon Cronenberg isn’t just copying his father’s style, Brandon has his own unique approach, an approach that contains a sort of visceral strangeness.
