Tony, Oscar, and Golden Globe Awards winner Joel Grey (Cabaret, Anything Goes) will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2022 Chita Rivera Awards. The event takes place at NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts.

Carrying the namesake of an American musical theater legend, the Chita Rivera Awards celebrates “dance and choreographic excellence – past, present and future.” Nominees for this year’s awards has been rescheduled to May 17 due to the pandemic.

“We are thrilled to honor Joel this year with our Lifetime Achievement Award,” said Joe Lanteri, founder and executive director of the New York City Dance Alliance Foundation. “From Cabaret and George M!  to Chicago and Wicked, Joel’s body of work has put him in “theater icon” status. We are proud to celebrate the man and his career.”

Along with Cabaret (for which Grey won a Supporting Actor Oscar), he has also starred in Man on a Swing, The Music of Chance, and The Fantasticks.
