Flick City: Cassandra Freeman And Raza Jaffrey Talk ‘Mo Better Blues’ And ‘Boogie Nights’

During The Enemy Within interviews, Cassandra Freeman and Raza Jaffrey talked about their favorite movies. Freeman chose Mo’ Better Blues and You’ve Got Mail, and Jaffrey chose Boogie Nights. Check out the video below!

Without further ado, here’s Cassandra Freeman and Raza Jaffrey talking about their Mo’ Better Blues, You’ve Got Mail, and Boogie Nights.

Mo’ Better Blues, released in 1990, featured Denzel Washington as a talented jazz trumpeter who doesn’t always make the right choices. It’s one of director Spike Lee’s most underrated films, and it paved the way for my lifelong love for jazz. The soundtrack’s absolutely amazing, and Gang Starr’s “Jazz Thing” introduced me to one of the genre’s most acclaimed musicians (“Charlie Mingus/such nimble fingers/dropping the bass/all over the place”).

As Freeman noted in the video, she ended up working with Washington and Lee in the 2006 feature Inside Man.

I liked (didn’t love) You’ve Got Mail, and I actually covered the press junket for that film. During the interviews, I asked Tom Hanks about working with Joe Versus The Volcano filmmaker John Patrick Shanley. Hanks talked about reading a Shanley script for a remake of Bell, Book and Candle (the original starred James Stewart and Kim Novak).

Boogie Nights is also another film that I love, and it’s spotlighted on Matt and Greg Used to Interview Movie Stars, a podcast I co-host with show creator Matt Levitz. Here’s the radio interviews from Boogie Nights, available to listen at your leisure!!
