For most of my life I’ve avoided most of David Spade’s body of work, but I’ve put my film snobbery to bed and I’m open to new movie experiences. Spade is a master at dry wit humor, and with the upcoming feature The Wrong Missy he seems to have the perfect comic foil in Lauren Lapkus.
Directed by Tyler Spindel, the filmmaker behind David Spade’s 2018 effort Father of the Year, The Wrong Missy centers on executive Tim Morris’ (Spade) adventures during a corporate retreat. Believing he texted Missy (Molly Sims), an attractive woman who may be the perfect match, he insteads reaches out to another Missy (Lauren Lapkus).
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The “wrong” Missy was a previous blind date of Tim’s, and her unpredictable and overly extroverted personality is not to his liking. Frequent Spade collaborators Rob Schneider and Nick Swardson are also part of the ensemble.
Lapkus and Swardson are absolutely hilariously in the trailer, and although the comedy literally falls off the cliff towards the end, I audibly laughed while watching the clip. Credit also goes to writers Chris Pappas and Kevin Barnett coming up with an ingenious concept. Texting the wrong person is commonplace, but throw it into a romcom stew (and giving Lapkus an assumedly ton of material to work with) and you may end up with a winning formula.
Check out the trailer and tell me what you think! If you have David Spade films that you’d recommend, please share in the comments!
The Wrong Missy hits Netflix on May 13.
