You're Dating A Narcissist - Brainstorm Media

Opening in theaters Friday, You’re Dating A Narcissist! centers on a worried psychologist (Marisa Tomei) who immediately leaves for Los Angeles with her best friend (Sherry Cola). The pair are on a mission to stop her daughter (Ciara Bravo) from marrying a charming doctor (Marco Pigossi). Directed and co-written by Ann Marie Allison, the feature has a refreshing about of depth. Bravo and Pigossi talked to Deepest Dream about the layers behind You’re Dating A Narcissist.

“I felt like it took this classic rom-com structure, but then brought in all of these beautiful nuances that just brought it to life,” said Bravo. “And sort of refreshed the genre in a way that I found very exciting.”

“It’s really refreshing,” added Marco Pigossi. “Ciara used this word and I love it. The script is a rom-com but there’s so many elements and many layers. And it’s done in such a smart way in telling that story. I just wanted to be a part of it.”

The big mystery of the movie centers on the doctor, who may or may not be bad news for the psychologist’s daughter.

In real life, is it an easy thing for Bravo and Pigossi to spot narcissists?

“I think if it wasn’t difficult to spot ’em, they wouldn’t be a true narcissist,” said Bravo. “They’re really emotionally smart people.”

Pigossi concurs with Bravo’s assessment. “They’re not easy to identify and of course they don’t know they are,” said Pigossi. They’re fascinating because in the beginning they can reach you. They know everything you need (and) know how to please you. (Narcissists) know what scares you, and they will do everything to show you how much you need them”

During the interview, Bravo and Pigossi talked about why acting is an integral part of their life. The quick chat ends with the actors recommending projects from their resume that they would recommend (Bravo picks Wayne and Pigossi chooses Brilliant Minds).

“The thing that drew me towards John Legend was his ability for songwriting and his emotion (and ability to) connect when he performs,” said Ashley Marina. “That’s something that I strive to do when I perform.”

**full interview with Ashley Marina:

Along with being a performer, Marina is also a devoted songwriter. During her younger years, Marina was influenced by such “big diva” singers like Whitney Houston and Celine Dion. As she matured as an artist, things organically changed. “Once I started writing my own music, I kind of fell into the full country genre,” said Marina. “That’s really become my thing. I want to be a storyteller, play the piano and sit down (with) my guitar. Even though I can sing these big ballads, I really want to be my own person – if that makes sense.”

“I always say faith over fear,” said Tia DuRant on her decision to take part in The Voice: Battle of Champions. “I had to conquer that fear and just make that sacrifice and just go after a big dream of mine.”

One of DuRant’s goals is to not have her artistry put in a box. As proud as she is to represent her hometown of Sumter, South Carolina, DuRant is also looking to take her talents all around the world. “It’s been such a goal of mine to travel,” said DuRant. “(The Voice: Battle of Champions) is a once in a lifetime experience for me to have that, I can check that off my box. And then I definintely want to go overseas and (work on) Broadway. If I can sing in front of Kelly, John and Adam – I can go to Broadway! I really can dream a lot bigger than even the dreams that I thought wouldn’t be accomplished.”

Abigayle Oakley Talks ‘The Voice: Battle of Champions,’ Songwriting, And Fostering Creativity

THE VOICE -- "The Battles Part 2" Episode 2905 -- Pictured: Abigayle Oakley -- (Photo by: Griffin Nagel/NBC)

Abigayle Oakley received a three chair turn during The Voice: Battle of Champions for her achingly reflective rendition of Robyn’s “Call Your Girlfriend.” The coaches hit their buttons, almost in unison, once they heard Oakley’s unique voice. Oakley, who picked Kelly Clarkson as her coach, talked to Deepest Dream about about touring, her music (give her album Recovering Optimist a listen!), and appreciating her journey on The Voice: Battle of Champions.

Since the sixth grade, Abigayle Oakley has been playing guitar. “I’m a songwriter first, so I feel like my approach to covering artists is I want to respect the original,” said Oakley. “The work that goes into writing a great song like ‘Call your Girlfriend’ by Robyn – I wanted to honor that while also creating something that is like a version that is all new.”

Fans of Oakley’s music can contact her via her website or by subscribing to her Substack.

”I’ve been really liking Substack because it’s one of the only platforms where you can share long form content,” said Oakley. “I usually post a full song that I have just written and share some notes behind the song, what inspired me, and then I always add a writing prompt so that other people can create their own thing. I try to keep that going on my Substack and it’s more of a community than, ‘Look at my thing look at this song that I wrote.’ I really wanna foster creativity for others as well.”

One of the selfish things I love about coveringThe Voice: Battle of Champions is listening to new music. Right at the top of that discovery list is Abigayle Oakley’s Recovering Optimist:

Abigayle Oakley takes on fellow Team Kelly artist Julia Golden tonight on The Voice: Battle of Champions (9/8c). The new episode streams the next day on Peacock.

Make sure you’re not chopping onions when you listen to this song:

Jonah Mayor, The Voice: Battle of Champions - Griffin Nagel, NBC

Jonah Mayor received chair turns from Kelly Clarkson (whom he picked as his coach) and Adam Levine during The Voice: Battle of Champions. His performance of “II Mondo” was a gutsy risk for Mayor, but the selection also came from a personal place (he dedicates the song to his late grandfather). Mayor talked to Deepest Dream about his Blinds performance, growing up in The Bronx, and how The Voice: Battle of Champions helped him explore “a more edgy” side of his voice. Check out the full interview below!

”The Voice: Battle of Champions definitely helped me with experiencing different type types of music and giving those genres just while also being true and authentic to myself,” said Jonah Mayor. “It taught me to be brave and be confident into stepping into those different types of genres and still be myself in the same way.”

“I was able to explore, kind of like this more edgy side of my voice and I was also able to just live within the music without having to necessarily be at the top of my register the whole time,” added Mayor. “But also live within the lower and the mid parts of my voice and connecting with the song in that way as well.”

Bill Allen is grateful to have Rad as part of his acting resume. “There’s actors who have entire careers come and go and not have anything really stick and have, have some sort of staying power and you can’t say that about Rad,” said Allen. “You can call it a lot of different things, but what it does is has legs and over the past five, six years, it’s been re-released in theaters on or about Rad Day, and it gets bigger every year. Last year it was had the highest screen per average of any movies that it was up against, which says to me (that) it’s not really a cult movie if it’s number one at the box office 40 years later. If you’ve seen it, (then) your kids have seen it now, (and) your grandkids have seen it.

Rad was directed by director Hal Needham, who was also a famous stuntman. Eddie Fiola’s career started as a professional BMX rider and Rad stunt work also led to a successful stunt career. “I did my thing,” said Eddie Fiola, who was Allen’s stunt double in Rad. “Bill did his thing and we’re still doing it. Now we’re on our 40th anniversary and I can’t wait to the 50th. The parents of kids today, they’re bringing back their youth of riding a bike – (that) was their freedom.”

The event features a remastered in 4K version of Rad and a sneak peek of Effortless: The Eddie Fiola Story. For Rad tickets, go here.
