Hosted (and spearheaded) by Debbie Lynn Elias, Behind The Lens is a new program that aims to shed a brighter light on the intricate process of filmmaking. Editors, cinematographers, production designers, and directors will be spotlighted on Elias’ show, which runs live on AdrenalineRadio.com every Monday morning (11:00 a.m. pt).
Actor/comicChad Miller and I were the guests for this week’s inaugural show, which focused on the making of Into The Woods. My participation on Behind The Lens is a purely selfish one, as Elias’passion for film is, from my perspective, unmatched.
Behind The Lens – Hosted & Produced by Debbie Lynn Elias (MovieSharkDeblore.com).
An extensive roster of journalists, critics, actors, and filmmakers will serve as in-studio (or call-in) guests for the program, so variety and tons of content will be two of the show’s staples.
You can check out the Podcast version of Behind The Lens’ on Debbie Lynn Elias’own site, MovieSharkDeblore.com. To catch the video version of Behind The Lens, check out the video below:
I’ll be one of the guests on the January 12 installment of Behind The Lens and plan to stick my nose in Adrenaline Radio’s studio for more BTL shows (if I’m welcome, of course!).
Discourse with informative and entertaining colleagues is always a pleasure (which means I’m in Elias and Miller’s debt), so please tune in to the show – especially if you want to take a longer walk into filmmaking’s always expanding universe.

Opening stateside January 16, Paddingtoncenters on the titular Peruvian bear’s (voiced by Cloud Atlas actor Ben Whishaw) attempts to find a new home in London. Although there are people who are more than happy to give Paddington a new home (Sally Hawkins plays a nurturing matriarch), he also encounters a bit of adversity in the form of Millicent (Nicole Kidman) a taxidermist who’s filled with ill intent.
Paddington – The Weinstein Company
For Kidman, taking part in Paddingtonwas a delightful experience. “They always say if you have a great time making a movie (it’s) not going to be any good,” said Kidman who was seen last year in the thriller Before I Go To Sleep. “But this movie is good and we had a really good time.”
Click on the media bar below to hear Nicole Kidman talk about the reaction she received from her 74-year-old mom and 4-year-old daughter after they watched Paddington:

Recorded over the last three years at Echo Mountain Studios and in Avett’sand Mayfield’shomes, the album celebrates the distinct and introspective stylings of Elliott Smith’s work.
“For Jessica and I, it was just a question of loving the songs and just genuinely loving singing,” said Avett in a video that documents the making of the album. “They’re so good that there is just a joy in singing them.”
The track list for Seth Avett & Jessica Lea Mayfield Sing Elliott Smithis as follows:
1. Between the Bars
2. Baby Britain
3. Fond Farewell
4. Somebody That I Used to Know
5. Let’s Get Lost

Avett and Mayfield are planning a tour in support of their album, with the specific dates to be announced shortly.
Toto XIV, the group’s first batch of new material since their 2006 effort Falling in Between, comes out March 24 in the U.S. (it hits Europe March 23). In support of their album, Toto will play a series of European dates starting May 21 (Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, Glasgow, UK) and ending July 16 in Vienne, France (Theatre Antique).
Keyboardist Steve Porcaro has high hopes for the album, as it marks an important chapter in the band’s body of work.
“This is opposite of going through the motions,” said Porcaro . “We are treating this like it is Toto V, our follow-up to Toto IV. We just want to be the best version of ourselves that we can be. Be true to ourselves and make the best music we can. Entertain people which is what we were put on this Earth for.”
Keyboardist David Paich also reflected on Toto’s long standing and refreshingly heady music goals: “I think of Toto as a unit and a band that carries a responsibility when it goes out there into the public consciousness. There is so much negativity and darkness that I think you have to be as Quincy Jones puts it, ‘beams of light that blast through the darkness.'”
Ant-Man under the direction of Edgar Wright would have been a sublime experience, but filmmaker Peyton Reedis a highly able craftsman, and his last feature (2008’s Yes Man) is a woefully underrated flick.
With Reed, a script from Adam McKay and Paul Rudd, and with Rudd starring as the titular hero, Ant-Man has a shot at greatness (or at worst, a touch of goodness) when it hits theaters July 17.
Ant-Man (Marvel Studios)
My Marvel fanboy/comic book geek days hit its peak during the 1980s, so seeing original Ant-Man Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) dishing out a few life lessons to heir apparent Scott Lang (Rudd) is my #1 reason for loving this trailer:
Here’s the official Boilerplate:
The next evolution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe brings a founding member of The Avengers to the big screen for the first time with Marvel Studios’ “Ant-Man.” Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, master thief Scott Lang must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.
Marvel’s “Ant-Man” stars Paul Rudd as Scott Lang aka Ant-Man, Evangeline Lilly as Hope Van Dyne, Corey Stoll as Darren Cross aka Yellowjacket, Bobby Cannavale as Paxton, Michael Peña as Luis, Judy Greer as Maggie, Tip “Ti” Harris as Dave, David Dastmalchian as Kurt, Wood Harris as Gale, Jordi Mollà as Castillo and Michael Douglas as Hank Pym.
Earth A New Wild,a series that details humanity’s intricate connection with wildlife and Mother Nature, hits Blu-ray ($34.99) and DVD ($29.99) on February 10 via PBS Distribution.
Hosted by conservation scientist Dr. M. Sanjayan, the series, shot in 29 different countries, is a joint collaboration between National Geographic Studios and Passion Planet.
“The pristine views of epic nature shows always leave something out of the picture: us,” said Sanjayan. “I traveled the world to film some of the wildest places. What I found were amazing stories that reveal a new paradigm about us and the planet we live on – that when we save wild nature we really are saving ourselves.”
Humpback whales, African lions, and Arctic reindeer are just a few of the animals spotlighted on Earth A New Wild, which is broken down into five episodes that spotlight a different section of our world’s expansive terrain (Home, Plains, Forests, Oceans, Water).

PlayStation Now is launching January 13 in North America, and it will be available to gamers in two plans ($19.99 per month or a three month package for $44.99).
The streaming game service, which will be first available on PlayStation 4 (PS4) consoles, will give unlimited access to over 100 PlayStation 3 (PS3) titles from such publishers as Warner Brothers, Bandai Namco Games America Inc., and Sega. For a list of the games available upon the subscription’s launch, go here.
“Users have been able to rent games through PlayStation Now for several months, and one of the top requests we get is for an overall subscription to the service. We’re excited to formally announce it today, as the PlayStation Now subscription service will deliver a ton of value by providing instant access to a large and diverse catalogue of games for one low price,” said Phil Rosenberg, Senior Vice President, Business Development and Publisher Relations, Sony Computer Entertainment America. “We know there are lots of PS4 owners that never owned a PS3, and this is a great way to catch up on games they may have missed.”
Under the service, players can save their game progress on PlayStation Now cloud servers and resume their game on PlayStation Now enabled devices.
To celebrate the subscription service’s launch, a PlayStation Now theme will be available to PS4 owners early this month. Gamers who download the theme before January 31 will be automatically entered for a chance to win a one-year subscription to PlayStation Now.
