Being described as the “breakout star” of The Royals in a Vanity Fair article must be a heady feeling for Alexandra Park, but for this Australian native success on E!’s freshman series has been a determined and hard-earned process.
During a sit-down with journalists to promote The Royals, Park recounted the arduous journey of auditioning during Television’s much talked about “pilot season.” Although she endured a challenge that could have felled many diligent dreamers, Park was even more focused on her acting goals.
I got so sick from the stress that I actually got diagnosed with (Type 1) Diabetes. It was full-on. So now I have this disease from the stress of pilot season! It was that moment when the doctors (said) ‘Well you can’t go to L.A.’ And I was like, ‘Stuff that – give me my insulin and I’m out.’ That was more like a fuel to my fire and here I am.
Instead of wallowing in self-pity, Park has learned how to balance her career, live a healthy lifestyle and to simply just “get on with it.” “I would like to use my voice through this show to help other people with Diabetes,” adds the actress, who counts The Royals co-star and friend Elizabeth Hurley as a mentor .
During the interview I asked her how it felt to actually achieve that very goal as a cast member on The Royals. For Park, pursuing an acting track was an “all or nothing” proposition. Check out the video below:
The Royals airs Sunday nights (10/9c) on E!
