Simply put, Great White is a shark film. That said, lead actor Aaron Jakubenko was confident filmmaker Martin Wilson would be shooting a film that went beyond the surface. “His passion for creating character driven stories was something that really excited me,” said Jakubenko. Check out our video interview with the actor below as he discusses Great White and why he’s a huge fan of the Paul Thomas Anderson feature The Master!

A seaplane is destroyed in the middle of the ocean and five passengers (Aaron Jakubenko, Katrina Bowden, Te Kohe Tuhaka, Kimie Tsukakoshi, Tim Kano) are struggling to survive on a raft. With a dangerous Great White on top of their every move, survival may not be in their cards!

“We all love the jumps, we all love the scares,” said Jakubenko whose body of work also includes the TV series The Shannara Chronicles and Tidelands. “And this definitely has that, but I think for me, the heart of this film is the characters. This connection and this bond between humans. That is what drew me to the script and I’m hoping that is what helps people fall in love with these characters. I hope they go in just wanting to enjoy it as well. It was a fun film that we made that has a lot of joys and pains. It’s great.”

Jakubenko also talks about his love for traveling (and “getting into the real world) during our brief chat. Apologies for the laggy zoom video, hope you enjoy nonetheless!

Great White hits theaters, On Demand, and Digital July 16.
