Torrey DeVitto plays Dr. Natalie Manning on Chicago Med, another successful Dick Wolf produced show that should have staying power. During the NBC/Universal Summer Press Day, I asked DeVitto to briefly pick a film that continues to inspire her as an actress and a moviegoer. She upped the ante and picked two films that I also love.

Chicago Med - Season 1

DeVitto’s picks were the Monica Bellucci headlined films Malena and Irreversible. Directed by Giuseppe Tornatore, Malena is set in WWII era Italy, as the titular character is an outsider in a close-minded Sicilian town. Tornatore’s previous credits include Cinema Paradiso and The Legend of 1900, and the wistful romanticism and inevitable heartbreak that’s infused in his body of work is also evident in Malena.

Directed by Gaspar Noe, the Paris set Irreversible is a fractured narrative that centers on Alex, a beautiful and passionate woman whose life takes a tragic turn when she’s raped by a stranger. Vincent Cassel also stars in the film as Alex’s lover. Noe’s films definitely push the boundaries and he’ll never be questioned for his ambitious approach to storytelling. While tough to take, Irreversible is definitely worth a look for Bellucci’s performance.

Enough with my babbling. Below is DeVitto’s take on both films (Bellucci was recently seen in the James Bond film Spectre). Chicago Med co-star Nick Gehlfuss is also in the vid:
