Director Michelle Danner (The Runner) brings out all the stops with her latest feature Miranda’s Victim. A highly engaging courtroom drama that is based on a true story, the feature is driven by an all-star cast, immersive cinematography, and pinpoint storytelling. Danner, who also runs an acting school in Los Angeles, talked to Deepest Dream about how she personally connected to Miranda’s Victim.

Miranda’s Victim begins in 1963 with Trish Weir (Abigail Breslin) attempting to bring her assailant, Ernest Miranda (Sebastian Quinn), to justice. Luke Wilson co-stars as Weir’s hard working lawyer, with Mireille Enos and Emily VanCamp playing Trish’s mother and sister.

Rounding out the ensemble are Ryan Philippe as Ernesto’s defense attorney, Enrique Murciano as the detective who captures Ernesto, and Donald Sutherland as the judge who levies the final judgment on Miranda. Along with giving the viewers’ knowledge about the origin of Miranda Rights, Miranda’s Victim is also a highly entertaining and well acted feature.

Michelle Danner is a self-professed fan of the “crime-mystery” genre, but that was not the only reason why she wanted to direct Miranda’s Victim.

Danner discovered that, after shooting the movie, someone close to her went through a sexual assault. “And I said, ‘wow, that must be the reason why I so much wanted to tell (this story),” said Danner. “And this person close to me kept it a secret and never talked about it . . . that were the realities of that time. So yeah, I think I have a very personal connection to this story.”

Running at 126 minutes, Miranda’s Victim is now out in theaters and is available On Demand. I absolutely love the movie, and CinemAddicts hosts Bruce Purkey and Eric Holmes also recommend the feature. Check out our review (podcast and video version) below:
