Now out on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital, The Mauritanian centers on Mohamedou Ould Slahi’s (Tamar Rahim) fight for freedom. Director Kevin Macdonald talked to Deepest Dream about Mohamedou’s empathetic nature, his own Blu-ray collection, and a memorable encounter with Samuel Fuller!

Along with first rate performances from Tamar Rahim andJodie Foster (as attorney Nancy Hollander), The Mauritanian also contains an evocative (and restrained) score from Tom Hodge. I also asked Macdonald about his underrated feature How I Live Now which stars Saoirse Ronan, George Mackay, and Tom Holland.
The Mauritanian Blu-ray comes with several minutes of deleted scenes, an alternate opening, and a behind-the-scenes featurette. While director Kevin Macdonald’s decision to change the opening brings viewers into the immediacy of Mohamedou Ould Slahi’s (Tamar Rahim) plight, the alternate version brings a different version of Mohamedou’s world.
The Mauritanian is now available on Blu-Ray, DVD, VOD & Digital (as of May 11, 2021).
