Jonah Mayor received chair turns from Kelly Clarkson (whom he picked as his coach) and Adam Levine during The Voice: Battle of Champions. His performance of “II Mondo” was a gutsy risk for Mayor, but the selection also came from a personal place (he dedicates the song to his late grandfather). Mayor talked to Deepest Dream about his Blinds performance, growing up in The Bronx, and how The Voice: Battle of Champions helped him explore “a more edgy” side of his voice. “I was able to explore, kind of like this more edgy side of my voice and I was also able to just live within the music without having to necessarily be at the top of my register the whole time,” added Mayor. “But also live within the lower and the mid parts of my voice and connecting with the song in that way as well.”
