It Lives Inside, directed and penned by Bishal Dutta, centers on Sam (Never Have I Ever’s Megan Suri), a girl who is trying to fit in at school. Rejecting her Indian culture may be a big regret when a mythical demonic spirit invades the body of her former best friend. This is Dutta’s big screen directing debut, and the second trailer shows the demonic spirit at work.

Bishal Dutta moved to North America from India when he was four. He stated that his “social education” came from watching American horror films. With The Shining’s Jack Torrance and A Nightmare on Elm Street’s Freddy Kruger among his horror character influences, Dutta’s passion for the genre was solidified.

It Lives Inside’s narrative has Sam (Megan Suri) attempting to embrace her culture in order to defeat or ward off the demonic spirit. “On one hand, it is a love letter to the community and culture that raised me,” said Dutta. “While on the other, it is a visceral experience that is disgned to instill the same raw terror in its viewers that my favorite horror films instilled in me.”
