Casper Van Dien’s signature role was in director Paul Verhoeven’s iconic Starship Troopers. In the ensuing years Van Dien has carved out a diversifed resume, and recently he was seen in the first rate indie Daughter. He co-stars with Nicky Whelan and Louis Mandylor in The Flood, an escapist fare that interviewer Eric Holmes desribed as “Assault on Precinct 13 with aligators.” Full interview with Casper Van Dien is in our post.
Getting The Flood pitch immediately intrigued Casper Van Dien. Throwing out comparions to popular action films from yesteryear should be catnip for most movie fans. “When I was pitched, they said ‘Casper this is a movie (like) Con Air meets Anaconda, but with alligators!’ Assault on Precinct 13 is in there too. I think they might have said that too, now that I’m remembering it.”
The Flood is blessed with a straight ahead, genre driven plot: a “horde of giant hungry alligators” face off with a group of prisoners and their guards after a hurricane floods Louisiana. Interviewer Eric Holmes recommended The Flood (his rating was a ‘three-star banger,’ which means the movie exceeded its genre expectations).
“I love acting,” said Van Dien. “I love being on a set. As I’ve gotten older, I have more life experience. And I think I’ve become a better actor because I have more to drawn on and more to draw from. I keep getting some cool scripts and some that I think need some work. And then I try to do the best quality films that I can get a hold of and get my hands on. I want to try and do something with.”
