Filmmaker Alejandro Monteverde is witnessing, within Sounds of Freedom’s first week, box office and critical success. The road to get the Jim Caviezel headlined film to theaters was a four to five year process, and he talked to Deepest Dream about the journey of getting his ambitious project to the silver screen.

“It’s been a difficult career for me when it has come to distribution,” said Monteverde. “My films have always have not gotten the attention the film needs to be successful. So I owe a lot of the success to the film to the distibutor because they believed in the film and they put everything they had in it.”

My mother, who’s a huge Jim Caviezel fan, absolutely loved watching Sound of Freedom. Since she does not go to theaters, she wanted to find a way to donate to the film, and Angel Studios’ “Pay It Forward” element helped her donate two tickets to help a couple of viewers watch Sound of Freedom.

The film has already passed its #2millionFor2Million goal. As of this post it is at the 113% goal mark, and it also has a Rotten Tomatoes audience score of 99%.

Synchronicity came into Monteverde’s life regarding Sound of Freedom. Some seven or eight years ago, he saw a piece on child trafficking and it absolutely “shook” his soul. He convinced himself that he had to do something about it.

“I started writing a fictional story based on that news report,” said Monteverde. “It was not until months later I get a phone call and I was introduced to Tim Ballard. When I met Tim Ballard, I realized that his life was better than the ficition I was writing.”

Sound of Freedom was a cinematic experience that, although it took on a devastating topic, was not preachy or manipulative in its execution. This is a film that should immerse the audience in the theaters, and hopefully it will resonate after the end credits.

“There’s too much of the same thing in cinema today,” said Monteverde. “(Sound of Freedom) is a completely different experience. When you watch the movie you’re becoming part of a change. Just creating awareness. People after watching the film say, ‘What can I do?’ The next part is to talk about this. The more we create awareness, the more we can start change and (make) protecting our children a priority.”
