The Cohen Film Collection travels down Alfred Hitchcock territory next month with the Blu-ray and DVD release of Jamaica Inn. Starring Maureen O’Hara and Charles Laughton, the picture was his first stab at Daphne Du Maurier material (followed by Rebecca and The Birds) .
The 1820s set drama centers on Mary (O’Hara) an Irish woman who visits England’s Cornish coast, only to find shady goings-on at the Jamaica Inn. Seeking the help of the local magistrate (Laughton) to rid the area of pirates, she quickly discovers sticking one’s neck out in a pool of corruption is deadly business.
Jamaica Inn’s 4K restoration was screened at last year’s Cannes Film Festival and the New York Film Festival.
Both the Blu-ray and DVD versions come with the following Special Features:
- Audio commentary from critic Jeremy Arnold
- Video Essay from Alfred Hitchcock biographer Donald Spoto (“The Dark Side of Genius: The Life of Alfred Hitchcock“)
- 2014 re-release trailer
