During the interviews for Teen Spirit (a first rate film whose review I’ll post this week), Jamie Bell briefly talked about his love for the Jonathan Demme directed feature The Silence of the Lambs. Check out the video for our latest Flick City installment below!

Jamie Bell serves as the executive producer of Teen Spirit, and he also collaborated with writer/director (and close friend) Max Minghella on the screenplay. I’ll be doing a ton more coverage on this movie, and if you want to check out Minghella discussing the brilliance of lead actress Elle Fanning, check out my post on Hollywood Outbreak.

“It’s just a film I’ve seen literally about 80 times,” said Bell on The Silence of the Lambs. “It’s endlessly watchable. I can’t figure it out. It’s incredibly heightened. It’s almost a theatrical experience more than anything. It’s kind of goofy. It’s kind of camp in a way. But it’s just brilliant, I don’t know how else to explain it.”

I watched The Silence of the Lambs as a UCLA student during its first week of release. Back then I could walk into Westwood Village and check out a bargain matinee at one of their movie houses. Anthony Hopkins, Jodie Foster, and Jonathan Demme were a great creative tandem, and it’s a shame they didn’t do more work with each other down the road.

Is The Silence of the Lambs one of your favorite films and what are some of Bell’s films that you love (one of my picks is The Eagle, an underrated flick co-starring Channing Tatum). Feel free to comment!

Teen Spirit, co-starring Rebecca Hall, opens nationwide April 12.
