Thomas Vincent (Bodyguard, Versailles) directs Role Play, the story of an assassin (Kaley Cuoco) who is also a happily married woman in the New Jersey suburbs. Things get understandably crazy when her husband Dave (David Oyelowo) uncovers her secret. This mix of action and comedy was one of the picture’s challenges for Vincent, and he talked to Deepest Dream about shooting Role Play.

If you have seen the pilot episode of Reacher, Thomas Vincent is a great choice to help navigate Role Play’s narrative. Mixing action, comedy (Reacher has its share of dry wit), and drama was a natural blend for the filmmaker.

Kaley Cuoco was already attached to it,” said Vincent about receiving the script for Role Play. “And there was a studio attached to it, so it was very much a package. And the first half of the script was pretty much what the film is now. The second half was not quite at the time keeping its promises. So we worked on (the script) quite a lot.”

“(Role Play) is a mix of comedy and action and, and the whole challenge was to find the sweet spot between the two of them because like when you have a film made of two elements, the danger is that you might end up having neither,” added Vincent. You want both, but it needs to be combined properly. And and most of the work was was really like very much the endeavor of this film was to make these two elements sink together.”
