CinemAddicts co-host Bruce Purkey appreciates a fair share of director David Cronenberg’s movies. Purkey recommends “The Fly,” “The Brood,” “The Dead Zone,” and “A History of Violence.” Cronenberg’s new movie “The Shrouds” did not captivate Purkey’s imaginantion to say the least. Check out his CinemAddicts review as he explains why this movie is “way too dumb” for its own good.

Devasted by his wife’s (Diane Kruger) death, techno-entrepreneur Karash (Vincent Cassel) creates a new software that allows the grieving to witness the decay of their loved ones who are buried under the ground. Kruger also plays the late wife’s sister and Karsh’s A.I. personal assistant. This is Cassel’s third film with Cronenberg after he starred in “A Dangerous Method” and “Eastern Promises.”
The movie co-stars Sandrine Holt, Guy Pearce, and Jennifer Dale.

Bruce Purkey believes that Cronenberg is best when he is adapting from someone else’s source material. As a fan of Cronenerg’s original ideas “Videodrome,” “eXistenZ,” and most recently “Crimes of the Future,” I respectfully disagree. I plan to watch “The Shrouds” this week and hopefully I will have a different reaction altogether.
“The Shrouds” is now playing in New York and Los Angeles and it expands theatrically April 25. Let us know your thoughts on “The Shrouds” and Bruce Purkey’s scathing review! YouTube and CinemAddicts podcast versions are below:
