Sadie Dahl has had an impactful year thanks to her journey on The Voice. A four-chair turn, Dahl picked Snoop Dogg as her coach and then during Battles she was stolen by Niall Horan. Tonight she goes up against Ava Nat on the Knockouts. We interviewed Dahl right after the Blinds (apologies for this late post!) and she shared her thoughts on The Voice and explained why R&B is her genre of choice as a music artist.
The Draper, Utah native captivated the judges with her rendition of Black Pumas‘ “Colors” during the Blinds. “I think that (R&B/Soul is) my strongest genre, and especially vocally, I can’t run away from the soulful hints that my voice just naturally carries,” said Sadie Dahl. For examples of her soulful voice check out “Colors” and her single “6 Cities.”
One of the big advantages of The Voice is befriending fellow artists during the competition. “Going out to LA for this whole experience, it was a big step for me. I just graduated high school just last year, so leaving home for that amount of time, even flying on my own, was something I had never done before,” said Dahl. “So it was an experience and a half and it kind of broke me out of my shell even more. The coolest thing for me was just making the connections there and meeting so many wonderful people who the world is slowly also getting to know, which I’m so excited about.”

One of Dahl’s early music influences is Tori Kelly. She was just 10 when she started listening to music and teaching herelf how to sing. When Dahl met Kelly in person, it was a “nerve wracking” but “absolutely amazing” experience:
