Our Friend is the true story of Matt Teague (Casey Affleck) relationship with his wife Nicole’s (Dakota Johnson) friendship with Dane Faucheux (Jason Segel). When Nicole is diagnosed with terminal cancer, Dane steps in to become a caretaker and an extended member of the family.

Blessed with three excellent actors, Our Friend is also directed by Blackfish documentarian Gabriela Cowperthwaite. Thus storytelling veracity could be a primary directive for Our Friend, which is also executive produced by Mattew Teague. Crafting narratives based on real people’s lives is also part of Cowperthwaite’s resume (she helmed the 2017 feature Megan Leavey).
