Monster Island from director Mike Wiluan streams on Shudder starting July 25, and it’s a creature feature gem that absolutely delivers. A Japanese soldier (Dean Fukjioka) and British POW (Callum Woodhouse) are stranded on a deserted island and trying their best to escape from a savage creature known as the Orang Ikan (Alan Maxson). Check out my review as I praise the heck out of Monster Island!

Monster Island – Shudder

Japanese soldier Saito (Dean Fujioka) is handcuffed to Bronson (Callum Woodhouse), a British POW and their fates are seemingly sealed. When a torpedo hits their ship, they survive the attack and are stranded on a deserted island. Their troubles have just begun, however, as a creature known as the Orang Ikan is aiming for the kill.

Director/writer Mike Wiluan hit a home run for his shooting location, as the island provides a ton of beautiful visuals throughout this 83-minute narrative. I’m a sucker for practical effects, and Alan Maxson does a great job as the Orang Ikan. A B-movie to its core, Monster Island exists a lean and mean story, offering up very little backstory on its main characters and the Orang Ikan. I appreciated Monster Island’s barebones and the final confrontation offers up a memorable resolution.
