With all the positive aspects of The Voice: Battle of Champions, there are also tough sacrifices artists have to make. “It was really difficult being away from my kids,” said Mike Steele. “They were llke my driving force for real. They’re the ones that kept me going while I was there.”

Having a great “voice” and talent is just part of the equation for Steele, who used writing in his journal and meditation to keep him focused on his craft. “I would get up every say and (say) ‘I’m a star’ and ‘I will get a triple chair turn.’ I would repeatedly say these things and write in my journal on how I want this experience to turn out for me. And I can say I manifested it and it worked in my favor.”

Another goal for Steele, along with continuing his music career, is taking his kinds and moving his family from Mississippi to California. “I just felt so at home being (in Los Angeles),” added Steele. “It was such a fun time being there.”

Catch Mike Steele tonight on The Voice: Battle of Champions (9/8c). The new episode streams the following day on Peacock.
