Based on the bestselling young adult series The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare, Shadowhunters centers on Clary Fray (Katherine McNamara), an 18-year-old who discovers that she is descended from a long line of demon hunters (hence the show’s moniker). Along with fellow shadowhunter Jace (Dominic Sherwood) and her best friend Simon (Alberto Rosende), Clary attempts to rescue her kidnapped mother while attempting to come to terms with her profound discovery.

“When you read a book you have such a personal experience with it and your own vision, your own imagination add so much to it,” said McNamara during last weekend’s Television Press Critics Association Winter Press Tour. “Down to the physical attributes of each character. I think each one of us has certain elements of those characters, but we bring our own thing to the show.”
