“We’ve known each other for many years now,” said Deepika Padukone during the movie’s press conference and premiere, which was held in Mumbai, India. “I think working together was in our destiny. We were to work together in another project together but for various reasons, that didn’t work out. I think we both knew it was going to happen very soon.”

The first time Deepika met Diesel was several years ago in an audition. Although she didn’t land the part, Padukone would eventually land her co-starring role in xXx: Return of Xander Cage after meetings with director D.J. Caruso and Diesel.

“I was speechless,” said the actress about her meeting with Diesel for the role of Serena Unger. “I was just amazed by how much he had to say about the film and the character and about Serena and about Xander. (He was) consumed with this entire project.”
