One huge reason to check out The Gray House, the new eight episode limited series on Prime Video, is the masterful direction from Roland Joffé (The Killing Fields, The Mission). Daisy Head, who played real life Union spy Elizabeth Van Lew, waxed poetic about the veteran filmmaker.

For Daisy Head, the “skill, talent, and vision” of Roland Joffé was a sight to behold. “It was such a privilege and honor to work with him so closely for a long period of time,” said Head. “Every scene was an abundance of revelation. I knew he was making magic (and) I am must blown away by the majesty of his eye.”
The Gray House’s co-creators are Leslie Greif, Darrell Fetty, and John Sayles (Matewan). Both Sayles and Joffé have carved out acclaimed careers in cinema, and it’s a pleasure to watch them work in this narrative form. Joffé previoiusly worked with Greif and Fetty on the 2015 miniseries Texas Rising.
Head described The Gray House, which is based on a true story, as a “moving tapestry” that Joffé weaved with “authenticity” and “beauty.” “The cinematography is just sensational,” added Head, who co-starred in 2023’s Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. “And yeah, just a true honor to have worked with someone with that level of skill.”
Co-starring Mary-Louise Parker, Amethyst Davis, and Ben Vereen, The Gray House is now streaming on Prime Video. Share your thoughts on the miniseries in the comments!
