“I’m one of the first (producers) in the Netherlands that worked on virtual reality experiences,” said Meijers. “And when artists want to make one, they often knock on my door and they ask me if they want to join their journey and realize their ambition for the project. I also do a lot of mentoring and coaching at talent development programs.”
These projects are not an overnight journey for Meijers and the filmmakers. Often it takes several years for these stories to complete, and Meijers likened the development project to making a feature film.
Meijers is also a cinephile who is passionate about storytelling, so her production output is diverse. “Not every project should be done in VR,” said Meijers. “It doesn’t make sense. You really have to think about what it means to be in a virtuality environment and a 360 degree space. Will you have a body in there or will you be a fly in the wall? Sometimes my projects are fiction, documentaries, and animation. But often it’s the experimental people that find me so in that sense it’s the weird stuff that comes (in my direction).”
More festival runs for Lacuna and Lesbian Simulator are planned. For further information and updates, check out Studio Biarritz.
