The Silencing is a thriller that centers on Rayburn Swanson (Game of Thrones’ Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), a former hunter who is determined to exact revenge on the person who kidnapped his daughter five years ago. Sheriff Alice Gustafson (Annabelle Wallis) is also determined to find the killer after the recent discover of a dead woman in the woods.
Written and produced by Caroline Goodall (Schindler’s List, The Dressmaker), The Bay of Silence is a complex thriller that, at its heart, is also an intricately woven narrative on how one deals with grief. Headlined by Claes Bang (The Burnt Orange Heresy) and Olga Kurylenko (To The Wonder), the feature has a refreshing emotional depth that was unexpected. It has been a passion project for Goodall, and she talked to Deepest Dream about her writing and producing journey with The Bay of Silence.

Directed and penned by Tom Paton, G-LOC is a sci-fi narrative that centers on Bran Marshall (Stephen Moyer), a human who leaves Earth to journey to a planet named Rhea. Solid sci-fi stories usually have a thematic undercurrent that anchors the action and special effects, and G-LOC’s exploration of racism and survival kept me throughout its 93 minute running time.

My love for Spree, a new feature highlighted by excellent performances from Joe Keery and Sasheer Zamata, mainly lies in the shock of recognition. Social influencers and social media are valid methods in getting your respective “brand” to another level, and director Eugene Kotylarenko effectively captures the desperation of seeking validation in this all consuming universe.
In celebration of its 20th anniversary, Requiem for a Dream Director’s Cut comes out on 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack (plus Blu-ray and Digital) on October 13. The Lionsgate release, remastered for the first time in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, will also feature four brand new featurettes.
La Llorona, directed by Jayro Bustamante, transforms the traditional folk-tale into an allegory for the political sins of Guatemala. The film opens as the patriarch of a wealthy Guatemalan family, Enrique (Julio Diaz), is standing trial for genocide. The bulk of the film focuses on the ways that three generations of women in Enrique’s family have to come to terms with the possibility that their husband/father/grandfather may be a monster.
Watch List, an action thriller set in the Philippines, features Alessandra De Rossi as Maria, a woman whose husband is murdered under mysterious circumstances. Maria believes her husband was unjustly framed.
Actor and producer Mike Hatton (Green Book) collaborated with director/writer Christian Sesma in the 2016 Vigilante Diaries, and now the pair are back with Paydirt, an action suspenser headlined by Luke Goss and Val Kilmer. Even with an indie budget, Hatton and Sesma were able to craft a feature that has a refreshingly meaty narrative that does not solely rely on blood and bullets.
