Filmmaker Ramin Bahrani’s The White Tiger, based on the New York Times bestseller, centers on a poor villager’s (Adarsh Gourav) rise to a cunning entrepreneur in modern India. All three of us at the Find Your Film podcast gave this self-assured and pointed epic high marks. We also conduct our inaugural Find Your Film awards. Take a listen!

Frank Stallone Talks ‘Stallone: Frank, That Is’ And Reflects On Diverse Career

0
Now available on Digital and VOD, Stallone: Frank, That Is takes an informative and engaging look at Frank Stallone’s career. Running at 73 minutes, the doc displays the versatility of Stallone as an actor and overall entertainer. I’m a huge fan of Stallone’s forays into big band music, and he also delivers some great movie recommendations as well!

Lance Oppenheim Talks ‘Some Kind of Heaven,’ Florida Influences, And Darren Aronofsky Collaboration

0
Some Kind of Heaven started as a college thesis for director Lance Oppenheim, and this documentary about Florida’s The Villages is now a full fledged project. Executive produced by Darren Aronofsky, the project centers on several people who call The Villages home, and thanks to a mixture of stylized and humanistic filmmaking, Some Kind of Heaven resonates. My video interview with Oppenheim is featured in this post.

Diaz’s gripping and informative documentary A Thousand Cuts, which received a Grand Jury Prize nomination from the Sudance Film Festival, is now available for viewing on the PBS Documentaries Prime Video Channel. Philippine journalist (and Rappler CEO) Maria Ressa’s determination to report on President Rodrigro Duterte’s war on drugs, despite constant threats of jail time, is front and center in the documentary.

‘Nomadland’ Is A “Remarkable Achievement” From Filmmaker Chloé Zhao And Frances McDormand

0
Nomadland is a remarkable achievement, somehow rewriting and elevating the mythology of the American West. Director Chloé Zhao completes her unofficial trilogy, each film dealing with a different element of this mythology. First, she examined modern life on a Native American Reservation in Songs My Brothers Taught Me. Second, she considered the role of the modern cowboy in The Rider. It only seems natural that her third feature would follow the lives of modern “nomads” as they work and travel across the West.

Find Your Film Reviews ‘Nomadland,’ ‘The Reason I Jump’ and ‘The Cat O’ Nine Tails’

0
On the latest Find Your Film podcast we review Nomadland and The Reason I Jump, two cinematic experiences that are infused with humanism and first rate storytelling. Nomadland is my #1 feature of 2020, and The Reason I Jump is a documentary that is highly recommended by all of us. Take a listen to our episode, and a show breakdown is included!

Directing 101: ‘Parallel’ Filmmaker Isaac Ezban On Making Fast Decisions And Casting Kathleen Quinlan

0

Released last month and now available On Demand, Parallel ceners on a group of struggling entrepreneurs who stumble upon a mirror that is a portal to a “multiverse.” Director Isaac Ezban seamlessly infuses his time travel thriller with a touch of Giallo cinema and formalistic storytelling. With all of Parallel’s creative flourishes (all within a modest budget), it’s easy to see that Ezban is a diehard cinephile. He talks about his approach to indie filmmaking, working with Oscar nominated actress Kathleen Quinlan (Apollo 13), and his love for Alejandro Amenabar’s Open Your Eyes and The Others.
