Shailene Woodley stars in To Catch A Killer, a movie that some may feel echoes Silence of the Lambs. The feature, however, delivers on its premise and is powered by first rate performances from Woodley and Ben Mendelsohn. Now available on Video On Demand, Chantilly Bridge is a sequel to the acclaimed 1993 feature Chantilly Lace. Filmmaker Linda Yellen returns 25 years later to continue the journey of lifelong friends (Talia Shire, Jill Eikenberry, Helen Slater, Lindsay Crouse, JoBeth Williams). Adding to the ensemble are Patricia Richardson and Naaji Sky Adzimah. Both newbies to the Chantilly world have a sizable role. Writer-director Saim Sadiq’s Pakistani feature Joyland has received worldwide acclaim, and starting Friday it starts its North American run at New York’s Film Forum. This is one of my favorite features of the year, and it was a pleasure to interview Sadiq and actors Ali Junejo, Rasti Farooq, and Alina Khan.
I have enjoyed my share of Andy Fickman features (You Again,The Game Plan, She’s The Man), and that comedic energy and entertaining spirit is found in the new romantic dramady One True Loves. Philipa Soo is the woman who is torn between two lovers (Simu Liu, Luke Bracey), one of who was missing and presumed dead for years. Fickman talked to Deepest Dream about One True Loves and its subtly intricate approach to romance.
Turn Every Page: The Adventures of Robert Caro and Robert Gottlieb hits DVD on April 11 via Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. The entire CinemAddicts crew (Bruce Purkey, Eric Holmes, and I) recommend this engaing and informative documentary. The film is now out on Digital, but in my opinion this is worth adding to your physical media collection.
Ridley Scott’s latest epic Napoleon hits theaters worldwide on November 22 before it streams globally on Apple TV+. This release is a partnership between Apple Original Films and Sony Pictures Entertainment. Joaquin Phoenix, who previously worked with Scott in Gladiator, plays the titular role.
