Penned, directed and edited by David Raboy, The Giant is headlined by Odessa Young, an actress who has gained steady momentum thanks to Assassination Nation and Shirley (she’ll next be seen in The Stand). The Giant’s trailer has me hooked, as this brooding, atmospheric. thriller might be the real deal.

Ben Schnetzer and Odessa Young in “The Giant” (Vertical Entertainment)

Charlotte (Odessa Young) learns on her graduation night that her boyfriend Joe (Ben Schnetzer) has returned to town after vanishing for a year. Understandably shaken by a family trauma, Charlotte probably needs a shoulder to lean on, but she may be barking up the wrong tree.

A series of murders have taken place in her small Georgia town, and Charlotte is probably wondering if Joe is the killer. Madelyn Cline (Outer Banks) co-stars as her lively friend Olivia.

Writer/director/editor David Raboy previously worked with The Giant cinematographer Eric Yue on Yue’s 2012 short Monday Monday (which Yue directed). The Giant was shot on Super 35mm and Super 16mm, and any movie shot on actual film has my attention. With an ensemble filled with talented young actors (Jack Kilmer from 2018’s underrated Josie), The Giant has the makings of a solid cinematic experience.

The Giant will be available On Demand Friday, November 13. Check out the trailer and tell us what you think!
