When asked to name one of their favorite movies, Russell Hornsby cited The Wizard of Oz and Michael Imperioli chose Midnight Cowboy. Props to Hornsby for reciting a lyric from the film and equal respect to Imperioli for creating a link between the two films! Transcript and video of the brief convo is below:

Hornsby: I’m The Wizard of Oz, quite honestly.

Imperioli: So am I, that’s something the two of us have in common.

Hornsby: The story itself. The music. The lyrics are just brilliant. “We get up at 12 and start to work at one, take an hour for lunch, then at 2 we’re done. It’s jolly good fun.” It’s just a brilliant, brilliant line. So yeah.

Imperioli: That was a big one. When I got a little older Midnight Cowboy – that one blew my mind. If you think about it, they’re kind of similar stories in a weird way. Joe Buck is Dorothy and New York (is) the Land of Oz and the Wicked Witch.

In case you wanted to listen to the song Hornsby referenced in The Wizard of Oz:

Playing the titular character in Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt for the Bone Collector has been a rewarding experience for Hornsby: “It’s a challenge. It’s one that I embrace and I welcome,” said the actor, whose previous credits include Fences and The Affair. “This is one of those things when you’re in theater school and when you’re traipsing around New York over the years you’re always telling yourself you want to be challenged as an actor as much as possible. This was that opportunity to step up to the plate and show what you’re made of.”
