One of Season 28’s standout artists on The Voice is Yoshihanaa. She started off the Blinds with a four-chair turn (thanks to a standout rendition of Deborah Cox’s “Nobody’s Supposed To Be Here”) before choosing Snoop Dogg as her coach. She performs tonight on the Playoffs as she aims to advance to the Lives. Although this Yoshihanaa interview occured right after The Blinds (my fault!), the interview does have some evergreen content. Check out our full interview with Yoshihanaa below!

During her Battle with Natalia Albertini, Yoshihanaa continued her momentum with “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman.” Albertini did a great job, but Yoshihanaa and an Aretha Franklin track go together in an oh so “natural” fashion. Lizzo commented during the “Natural Woman” rehearsals that Yoshihanaa had “God given, natural born talent.”
“ It is in my DNA,” said Yoshihanaa in agreement. “My great-grandfather was an amazing vocalist and he was in a quartet band all of his life throughout his late teens to the day that he went to Glory. To get a compliment like that from people that know and hear me all the time, it’s great. It’s reassuring.”
“But to hear something like that from someone who I would say is in the upper echelon of entertainment, it’s heartwarming,” added Yoshihanaa. “It’s almost surreal because it’s like you’re not just looking at me, you’re listening to me, and you’re hearing something that’s obviously moved you to a point to where you have to say it. I wanted to cry, but I was on camera so I couldn’t cry. It just really validates everything that I’ve worked towards as far as investing time and discipline into my craft.”

During knockouts, Yoshihanaa performed Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell’s iconic “You’re All I Need To Get By.” It was another powerhouse rendition from the Atlanta based singer, and who didn’t love when Reba McEntire asked Yoshihanaa if those were pants or boots?
With all that overwhelming talent, why did Youshihanaa choose to devote her quality time to The Voice? “In Atlanta, one could say that I had already achieved, you know, mass success in the live entertainment realm,” said Yoshihanaa, who added that she has loved ‘building a community’ with her fellow artists on the show. “But that’s not the end goal. The end goal is, is to be able to create and make music and share that music with the world.”
