Odessa Young (“Mothering Sunday”) is not the only shining star in the memorable horror feature “The Damned.” Visually, the film is an immersive cinematic experience. If you are looking for a compelling psychological tale, you have also come to the right place. A chamber drama that features eye-catching compositions is few and far between, making “The Damned” a welcome experience.
Set in 19th century Iceland, “The Damned” centers on Eva (Odessa Young), a widow who runs a fishing outpost in the middle of nowhere. It’s an unforgiving winter, and a group of fisherman (including Peaky Blinders’ Joe Cole) have taken up lodgings on her property.
During the early morning, the crew and Eva spot a sinking ship off in the distance. Eva makes the decision to not rescue the shipwrecked individuals in order to ensure their survival. This lack of aid has its repercussions, as people start to believe a Draugr has come to haunt them.
Rounding out the ensemble is Siobhan Finneran as Helga, the woman who truly believes in the Draugr, and Rory McCann (“Game of Thrones”) as Ragnar, the leader of the fisherman.
