The Aladdin remake has one major update that I won’t spoil concerning Jasmine (for details, check out this Yahoo! article), but one of the extra additions is the new Alan Menken song “Speechless.” Naomi Scott (Power Rangers), who stars as Jasmine, talked about performing the song and what made it a unique experience.

During the Aladdin press conference, Naomi Scott felt “blessed” to not only play Jasmine but to perform “Speechless,” a new song that was created by Disney stalwart Alan Menken and lyricists Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. Below are her comments regarding the track:
When I heard it and just the words and the lyrics and how timely it was. The message behind the song. The idea of not going speechless and that everyone has a voice. It doesn’t matter who you are. It doesn’t matter what you look like. It doesn’t matter what’s your gender. Your voice matters. Speaking out against injustice matters. Not just standing by and being a spectator. It was very emotional, because I wanted it to feel raw and I wanted it to feel like it is what she is going through in the moment. We did some of it live as well, which was a different type of challenge.”
