On a pure entertainment level, Halloween’s major selling point features the supposed final confrontation between Michael Myers and Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis). That being said, the transcendent nature of the franchise also lies in the narrative’s underlying themes.
“It’s a movie about trauma . . . generational trauma,” said Curtis. “It’s can’t be a heavy (movie). It’s a horror movie – this is a Halloween movie so it can’t be heavy and laden with a psycho drama, do you know what I mean? It has to be judicious.”
In the audio clip below, Curtis talks about being very isolated during the production of the movie and how shooting a pivotal sequence in Ashley Phosphate Road (in Charleston, South Carolina) was an emotional sequence (spoiler alert: “We Are Laurie Strode” comes into play):
