Gin Blossoms “GoPro” It With Rousing ‘Mega Pawn King’ Video

The music video of “Mega Pawn King,” a track from the Gin Blossoms’ critically acclaimed album Mixed Reality has been released. If you’ve ever wondered if a one guy, his guitar, and a GoPro could make for a solid vid, take a look!

Armed with GoPro cameras attached to his guitar, Robin Wilson shot footage in three U.S. National Parks (Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, and Zion National Parks) while participating in the charity event Rock The Canyons 2018 (which benefitted the Love Hope Strength Foundation).

Upon watching the video and instantly digging the song, I thought “Mega Pawn King” had echoes of R.E.M., not knowing that Mixed Reality was produced and mixed by Don Dixon and recorded by Mitch Easter (they worked on R.E.M.’s Murmur and Reckoning).

The song was also penned by Gin Blossoms bassist Bill Leen. “This is one of Bill’s first ever songs,” said Wilson. “In my mind it is a mashup of R.E.M. and The Rolling Stones. While recording, it became clear this was one of the strongest and most meaningful songs on our album.”

“Mega Pawn King’s” lyrics are also catchy and, in its ever so frank way, insightful. “Don’t resist it,” writes Leen to close out the song. “Don’t resent it, don’t remember, don’t forget it. There are places, fine without me around.”
