Peeter Rebane directs and co-writes (with lead actor Tom Prior) the new feature Firebird. This has been a labor of love for Rebane, and during our interview he explains why he refused to compromise the narrative on any level. Check out our video interview below!
Based on the memoirs of Sergey Fetisov, Firebird centers on the relationship between a young soldier named Sergey (Tom Prior) and Roman (Oleg Zagorodnii), an ace fighter pilot. Diana Pozharskaya is Luisa, a close friend of Sergey’s who winds up being part of their love triangle.
Set in Estonia during the late 1970s, Firebird was directed and co-penned by Peeter Rebane.
My directing professor, really amazing lady (Judith Weston) here in Los Angeles, she always said (to) never compromise as a director, said Rebane. “Always make a choice and find a solution. I think it’s not easy and just recently I got really strong criticism from one of my team members, saying that ‘nothing is good enough for you’ (laughs). Honestly I don’t believe in ‘good enough,’ I believe in everyone doing their best.”
Firebird is now playing in select theaters. Check out my full interview with Peeter Rebane below:
