This week on Find Your Film we review Stray, a Turkey set documentary that centers on the life of several dogs. The award winning film is directed by Elizabeth Lo, and all three of us had high praise for the doc. Other movies covered include the new Shudder release Lucky (I dug it, Bruce didn’t) and the Disney Plus release Raya and the Last Dragon!

Directed, shot and edited by Elizabeth Lo, Stray centers on three strays as they attempt to navigate through Turkish society. The dogs’ relationships between the humans (most notably several young Syrians) are also spotlighted in this immersive documentary, and one of its many strengths centers on Lo’s cinematic approach to the material (which she briefly touches on during our interview).

Co-hosts Bruce Purkey and Eric Holmes have a ton of eloquent things to say about Stray, and most importantly you can learn more about the project by going to its official website and/or renting it on here (Find Your Film gets a small commission as an Amazon Associates member).

I’m not the biggest animation fan, but Raya and the Last Dragon is a film I can watch over and over again. It’s a highly recommended feature. Lucky, now streaming on Shudder, is another film I dug, but please listen to Bruce’s take on the film for a more well rounded picture of the feature!

Eric Holmes’ recommendations are Apple TV+’s Fireball: Visitors from Darker Worlds and Freaky. Bruce Purkey’s picks are Martha Marcy May Marlene, Taipei Suicide Story, and the What’s in the Box pick My Winnipeg (thank you Jeff Bassin for the recommendation).

If you want to suggest more movies for Bruce to watch, email [email protected] and add your Movie pick to the box!!
