Late writer Vince Flynn’s Mitch Rapp series is getting the cinematic treatment with American Assassin, as Dylan O’Brien is front and center as the vengeful CIA black ops recruit who understandably can’t shake a past tragedy.

During the interviews for American Assassin, Dylan O’Brien discussed the hero’s journey of Mitch Rapp.

“He always thinks that the revenge factor or the vengeance will be the answer,” said O’Brien. “And that will ultimately be what heals him. I think a big thing for me over the course of the film with the arc of this character is he has, at some point, decide or to learn about himself is that this thing he went through – it’s never going to leave him. It will always be a part of him.”

Michael Keaton plays Stan Hurley, Rapp’s tough as nails mentor, and O’Brien definitely learned from his collaboration with this Oscar nominated actor:

American Assassin opens nationwide September 15. Since the review embargo is the week of its release, and the next CinemAddicts episode will be posted on September 1st, I can’t actually review the film (but I will throw in a few comments during the episode!).
