A psychological thriller filled with family underpinnings, Kindred is a narrative that continues to resonate. A week ago I interviewed Joe Marcantonio, the filmmaker who makes his feature directing debut with Kindred. I love the film’s uncompromising nature as well as its eye catching visual storyteling. My video interview with Marcantonio is below!

As a fan of Vera Cruz, The Dirty Dozen, Ulzana’s Raid, The Big Knife, and Kiss Me Deadly, I am looking forward to Kino Lorber Studio Classics’ release of Apache and Attack!. Both films debut December 1 on Blu-ray.

After watching the trailer, I did not connect science fiction with What Lies Below. Vertical Entertainment, however, has labeled their new film as “thriller/sci-fi,” so I’m assuming Mr. Right is literally “out of this world” (excuse the pun). The feature stars Mena Suvari, Ema Horvath, and Trey Tucker, and the trailer offers a few interesting visuals.

Whether they be crows or ravens, birds play a terrifying part in Kindred, a beautifully rendered psychological thriller from director Joe Marcantonio. Blessed with first rate work from Tamara Lawrence (The Long Song), Fiona Shaw (Killing Eve), and Jack Lowden (Dunkirk), Kindred is a family story that should get under your skin.

Jacob Chase Reflects On “Compassionate” Approach To Crafting ‘Come Play’

Jacob Chase makes his feature writing and directing debut with Come Play. The gripping and surprisingly resonant tale, which continues the events that transpired in his short Larry, boasts a standout performance from lead Azhy Robertson. In our brief interview, Chase discusses his admiration for several iconic filmmakers (Steven Spielberg, Mike Nichols, Orson Welles) and elaborates why compassion is a big element of Come Play.

Writer-director Jacob Chase has crafted an absolute gem with Come Play, a scary and surprisingly evocative tale that expands the world of his short film Larry. Blessed with a memorable performance from Azhy Robertson as a youth named Oliver, Come Play should generate enough solid buzz to place it high above the fray.

Science fiction plays an important part in George Clooney’s body of work (Solaris, Gravity), but this time out he’s also behind the camera in The Midnight Sky. The feature, lensed by Clooney collaborator Martin Ruhe (The American, Catch-22), is based on Lily Brooks-Dalton’s acclaimed novel Good Morning, Midnight. Check out the trailer and tell us what you think!
