It was a brief four minute interview with filmmaker Sean King O’Grady, but considering We Need To Do Something is a film I dug, I was grateful for the time. The video interview is below, and I will explain why this film will garner different reactions from viewers.

Singer-songwriter Masumi’s had a unique and whirlwind experience shooting Yakuza Princess. She married co-star Kenny Leu two days before production. Thus work assumedly took the place of a honeymoon, as they traveled to São Paulo, Brazil to shoot the feature!
It’s been a week or so since I’ve seen the spoken word/musical hybrid Summertime, and it’s a film that is still on my mind. Filmmaker Carlos López Estrada, with the aid of 25 artists, has crafted a diverse look at Los Angeles in all of its humanity and diversity. Estrada and Summertime co-star Raul Herrera talked to Deepest Dream about this unique cinematic experience.
Sarah Wayne Callies’ scripted podcast program Aftershock was initially set for recording days in Los Angeles and New York. The pandemic altered those plans, but Callies remained undaunted. Aftershock is currently available on whichever podcatcher you use, and she talked to CinemAddicts about opening up her creative horizons.
One of my favorite films this year is director Carlos López Estrada’s (Blindspotting, Raya and the Last Dragon) Summertime. I’m giving away four iTunes Digital Codes courtesy of Good Deed Entertainment. Details below!
Although Maxi Contenti describes his feature The Last Matinee as a “neo-Giallo,” the narrative’s heart and soul lies in the slasher genre. Contenti talked to Deepest Dream about how, amidst all the horror, lies a refreshing slice of nostalgia with The Last Matinee.
Luz: The Flower of Evil filmmaker Juan Diego Escobar Alzate joins us on Find Your Film to talk about his visually rich narrative. Co-host Eric Holmes championed the feature for months, with Bruce Purkey and I jumping on the bandwagon sooner than later. Alzate is a candid and amiable cinephile, and we have our extensive talk below in video and audio form.
Carly Pope, who worked with Neill Blomkamp on Elysium and his short Rakka, plays the lead his latest feature Demonic. Pope talked to Deepest Dream about what makes Blomkamp a unique filmmaker and why Demonicis more than just a horror film.
Michael Dweck and Gregory Kershaw spent three years capturing the day to day existence of The Truffle Hunters. The documentary, now out on Blu-ray and DVD, is a pleasure to watch. The filmmakers talked about immersing themselves into the lives of these Piedmond, Italy denizens and why one, according to Kershaw, is simply “lifted up by them.”
