Adam Sandler’s been the butt of many a cinema snob’s jokes (including mine) as the comedian has put out his share of critically drubbed movies (Pixels and Jack and Jill head the list). But maybe we’ve been a bit too harsh on Sandler (I know I have), and he’s getting amazing buzz at the Cannes Film Festival for his work in The Meyerowitz Stories (it’s written and directed by Noah Baumbach).
Brie Larson reunites with Short Term 12 filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton with The Glass Castle. The project is based on Jeannette Walls’ memoir of the same name, and the trailer recently debuted online. Check out the trailer, the teaser poster, and a few images from the film below!
I had the pleasure of attending the NBC/Universal TCA Day where Jill Flint and Eoin Macken talked about the upcoming fourth season of The Night Shift. During the chat Macken was able to briefly discuss his new book Hunter and the Grape, a plug that was actually aided by Flint. Video of Flint and Macken is available after the jump.
I really loved Dan Stevens in the Shout! Factory flick The Ticket and I’m intrigued by the gaming, VFX elements behind Stevens’ upcoming film Kill Switch. That being said, I’m posting due to my insane appreciation for Kill Switch actress Berenice Marlohe (she starred in one of my favorite romantic dramas – 5 to 7). Before she was an Oscar (“Dreamgirls”) and Grammy winning (for her self-titled debut album and “The Color Purple”), Jennifer Hudson was a contestant on “American Idol.” Seeing that type of competition from both sides should put her in good stead as a new coach for Season 13 of “The Voice.”

Although Amy Schumer hit it big with the first rate 2015 comedy Trainwreck, she didn’t immediately jump into another movie to capitalize on that film’s success. Refreshingly picky and looking for great material, Schumer is back with Snatched which is not your average comedy.

“The Carmichael Show’s” third season returns May 31 on NBC, and I’ll definitely be binge-watching the show on Netflix. Along with the program’s homage to Norman Lear’s seminal All in the Family, it also features Tiffany Haddish, a comedian and actress who, in the video below, drops the mic on a ton of topics. It’s an inspiring and candid several minutes – the vid’s available after the jump.
Playing this week at Laemmle’s Royal Theatre, “Panique” is a French classic where romanticism and existentialism collide like bumper cars, leaving various victims in its wake. A new digital restoration, coupled with the film’s nuanced storytelling, are just several reasons to check out this unforgettable cinematic experience.
