Stephen Shimek returns to the murder-mystery genre with another Miranda Green installment. Shimek’s foray into the series started with 2023’s Invitation to a Murder (with Mischa Barton as the book smart sleuth Green) and now the pair reunite with Murder at the Embassy. The feature, which is now out on Digital and On Demand, is an engaging mystery (I gave it a positive review on CinemAddicts). Check out my full interview with Shimek in the following post!
“This project brought (on) a lot of challenges that forced me to continue to learn,” said Stephen Shimek. “One of the things that I think as a director, you have to keep honing a skillset for is communication. And on this project we were working across three continents and kind of coordinating those teams and watching the collaboration at work.”
“It comes with its challenges, but it’s ultimately something that I’m the most proud of,” added Shimek who, outside of checking out a museum in Egypt, was understandably in work mode all through production. It was definitely an exciting challenge and something that I think we ended up handling relatively well.”

Another topic that is discussed in the interview is Shimek’s thoughts on AI. The filmmaker admits that it is a “hot button” topic, and although it certainly has its utility, it is not something that is high on Shimek’s priority list.
“ I personally don’t find AI compelling,” said Shimek. “I think that what is beautiful is what’s unique, right? And as we start to see AI become more and more ubiquitous, it becomes less and less unique. Anything that’s everywhere is just not interesting anymore.”
