Jon Seda and Jason Beghe were on hand earlier this month to talk about their series Chicago P.D., which takes part in an April 29 crossover event with Law & Order: SVU and Chicago Fire. During the interview, I asked Seda what makes Chicago P.D. a creatively gratifying experience.

With his past work on such acclaimed shows as Homicide: Life on the Street, the miniseries The Pacific, and Treme, Seda continues a solid run of participating in solid narratives. The actor says the first rate work from Chicago P.D. starts with the writing and then filters down to the rest of the cast and crew:
“The production is incredible, we have such an incredible crew. Everyone is just so passionate about wanting to do the best to make it look as real and authentic . . . and the actors, we care deeply in trying to make sure we come across first as police officers from a technical standpoint and after that we believe in our characters and what our characters stand for.”

Since I’m a huge fan of director Walter Hill’s work, I definitely wanted to ask Seda about the under appreciated 2012 action flick Bullet to the Head (he’s also great in this little seen flick called The Sunchaser, directed by Michael Cimino). Though I didn’t have the chance to ask about either film, the actor did reflect on one of his most beloved projects.
Seda was asked about playing Chris Perez on the 1997 film Selena, and he offered up a deeply personal reflection about that seminal experience (he’s still friends with Perez to this day). The video of Seda talking about Selena is below (March 31 marked the 20th anniversary of the singer’s passing):
